Keepers for 2019/2020

This year there isn’t that many good options in goal. The template is mainly split into two groups, either a cheap 4.5 or one of the premiums.

None of the 4.0 keepers are going to play so that brings the following list with recommendations in bold.

4.5: Some gold, some traps and quite a bit of uncertainty.
Nyland/Steer: Steer was the main keeper for second half of last season, but it might swap again and they are also rumored to several new additions, stay clear.
Begovic/Boruc/Travers: Who will be the keeper? No one knows and it doesn’t seem like we’ll know before the season starts. Travers impressing in preseason, Butland rumored as well as Heaton and Mignolet. This with Bournemouth also slipping a bit of goals in makes it a bad bet.
Ryan+button: Is as of now the only sure 4.5+4.0 goalkeepercombo. Ryan has also looked good during pre-season. This combined with Potter making an impact on the amount of clean sheets they might keep should make it quite a good combo for the price.
Pope/Heaton: Whichever stays or takes the main place is a great shout for a seasonal keeper. Burnley are usually good defensively and will thus have some clean sheets as well as both are capable of making quite a lot of saves makes them attractive. Hart is on the way out and preseason will make the first choice clear. As it is Pope holds the place as Heaton is rumored away.
Fahrmann/Krul: Krul was the first option last season, but now Fahrmann has come in on a loan. Doubts that it is to stay as a second. Krul is also over the top and have accepted playing second fiddle earlier. Time will tell but Norwich won’t be too sound defensively anyway.
Eastwood/Moore: Will either of them be the keeper or are Sheffield United get Henderson back on loan this season as well? Might be the best keeper out of the promoted teams if he gets back, but not sure as of now.
Gunn: With the situation at Burnley not resolved Gunn might be the singlebest 4.5 option. Southampton looked good at the end of the season and should be able to build on that with a stable backline.

5.0: A big bunch of maybe.
Leno: Arsenal with their usual problems at the back and with the leader Koscielny also making trouble now it doesn’t bode well for them.
Guaita: Crystal Palace might keep quite a few clean sheets this season, depending on how the loss of Wan Bissaka will affect them. Though you have Kelly as one of the 4.0 defenders that actually look to be playing and doubling up on them isn’t a smart move.
Dubravka: Have shown that he’s a great keeper, but playing for an awful team is limiting him quite a lot, had he played for someone else he would’ve been a great addition to any fantasyteam. Combine this with Benitez leaving which will have a huge impact on the defense he just isn’t a good choice.
Foster: Watford might do well as they are often underestimated and Foster is then the best choice here, but only kept as many clean sheets as West Ham last season which puts Fabianski ahead for now.
Fabianski: West Ham doesn’t look too strong defensively, but he did make the most saves last season, expect him to be among the top keepers in this group. If he’s worth the price is another case though, as it is it doesn’t look like it.
Patricio: Wolves kept a couple of more clean sheets then the counterparts above, putting Patricio in pole position in this group. Though you’ll have defenders at a lower price contributing more and he isn’t that great of a choice then.

5.5: None of them stands out as it is.
Kepa: Chelsea have a transferban and got trouble in their defense as is.
Pickford: Is a great choice by himself, but compared to Digne and Coleman who offers so much more going forward you rather want one of those. Everton isn’t a team you want to double up defensive on.
Lloris and Tottenham are also having trouble in defense with Trippier sold and the normal thing with Alderweireld wanting to go, with some problems with Verthongen as well it is as unsafe as it gets before the season starts.
De Gea would be a great option if he finds his old form, thus United haven’t looked like themselves last season and haven’t gotten any defensive reinforcement to boost the amount of clean sheets. If De Gea finds his form he’ll be a nice addition at an ok price.

6.0: Ederson might be a good cover for City defensively and a good pick by himself.
As Alisson will take a Liverpoolspot that is mostly congested this year the only real option here is Ederson. Playing for City and being one of the main players in the backline you should expect him to play everything and his longballs will make him get an assist or two.

Top 3 picks:
1. Ederson (6.0): Playing for a Cityside who has a lot of clean sheet potensial while also being able to get an assist makes him the clearcut best options of the keepers. He will most likely end up with the most points when the end of season comes.
2. Pope (4.5): Playing for a sound Burnleyside as well as contributing lots and lots of saves he should be able to pick up a lot of points. Only downside as of now is the risk of Heaton staying. Only injuries prevented him from having another great season last one and are thus underpriced. Will be a great pick and should get more points then all the keepers at 5.0 unless something happens.
3. Gunn (4.5): Southampton got something good going again and Hasenhüttl getting a full season should make them earn quite a bit of clean sheets as well as Gunn building on his average of almost 3 saves a match will make him more then worth the money.
